A 'Timeless' Layout

For today's project, I went back to my roots. My love for scrapbooking & crafting all began some 20+ years ago with layouts! I started documenting photos from events that were meaningful to me up to that time & from there I slowly evolved to card making, stamping, making mini albums, incorporating different mediums such as embossing & paints...the rest is history.

I made a page with the lovely 'Timeless' collection by Authentique. What I love most about black & white collections is the the ability to add splashes of any color to make the projects 'pop'. I added splashes of red & holographic effects.

This pre-made layout is available for sale in my Etsy shop, 'The Midnight Kraft Desk'.

The large circular flourish seen behind the photos mats is cut from an acetate special texture page.  The photo mats are made with both holographic & black card stock. These photo mats are for storing photos measuring up to 3" x 4" inches.  For display purposes I've temporarily placed 3" x 4" inch cut apart cards from the collection on the photo mats.

The title of my page has a holographic effect as well.  I've had this title in my stash for many years.

The embellishments used on this page are a combination of vines, fabric flowers, mulberry paper flowers, a mini wooden white fence, a mini bird's nest, a resin bird & a small glass bottle filled with holographic chunky glitter.

In this photo you can see the small glass bottle.  The bottle is decorated with lace & black & white twine.

I've also included a large stick pin & a black & white appliqué.  A large white doily further decorates the background of my page.

I've designed this page so that two 3" x 4" inch photos can slide behind all the embellishments & adhered to the photo mats.

Behind the two photo mats there's a white wax pocket. This pocket stores six cut apart cards from the collection. I included this pocket to as a place for storing journaling, thoughts, dates or more photos.  This pocket can store 3" x 4" inch cards and/or photos.

Supplies used: Paper - Authentique, Other - Fabric Flowers, Mulberry Paper Flowers, Stick Pin, Mini Nest, Resin Bird, Mini Wooden Fence, Small Glass Bottle

An Easter Layout With 'Abundant'

Today's post is an Easter-themed layout made with the 'Abundant' collection by Authentique.  The photo is of my son & the Easter bunny taken on Easter 2017.  It's one of the cutest photos I have of my son & had been wanting to scrap it for some time.  The 'Abundant' collection provided that opportunity--plus it took me back to where I started with scrapbooking--which are good ol' fashioned layouts.

I hadn't done a layout in a long time.  It felt refreshing to create one again.  I added many bits & bobs, embellishments  & Easter themed tidbits to decorate my page.  In my stash, I had this mini nest complete with little eggs inside.  I also used several fabric & mulberry flowers in colors that added a bit of 'pop' to my page.  The orange star-shaped fabric flower is from my Etsy shop, 'The Midnight Kraft Desk'.

The base of the page was made by tearing the designer paper diagonally.  I ripped the paper with my hands in order to make the tear look as 'natural' as possible.  I then distressed & inked the edges.  The ink was a pearlescent dark brown ink that added a bit of shimmer to the edges.  Peeking out from underneath is an 8" inch white doily.

The designer paper was then rolled up & is held in place with a dab of hot glue.

There's a bit of tulle tucked underneath the mini nest & as part of my journaling tag that 'softens' the look & feel of the layout.

Something else that I like to do is create these rolled up embellishments to further decorate my page. It's a way to add something different to a layout & also to use up any leftover scraps.

All of my layouts have some sort of journaling within them.  I tend to figure out unique or different ways of storing the journaling.  For this layout, I opted to store my journaling in a small kraft envelope that is also part of the layouts' base.

The banner seen here was fussy cut from one of the 'Abundant' papers & adhered with pop dots in order to give it some dimension.

The splatters were made with black liquid ink from my stash & some jute string was added to add a bit of visual flow to the page.

Supplies: Paper - Authentique, Resin Bird - Prima, Other - Jute String, Doily, Mulberry Paper Flowers, Fabric Flowers, Mesh Ribbon, Tulle, Mini Bird's Nest

Thanks for stopping by & I hope this layout inspires some of you to document those precious memories!

'Escape' Layout - CSI Guest Detective and Sponsor

Today I'm quickly sharing this layout that I created when I guest designed for Color...Stories...Inspiration or CSI in August.  I was also happy to be one of the sponsors donating a $25 gift voucher to my online Etsy shop, The Midnight Kraft Desk for the month of August.

As you can see I'm a bit behind in posting this--we'll blame 'life' itself  as getting in the way as usual eh?  :-)

Here is the case file that we had to solve along with the inspirational photo which helps determine the overall look & feel of your project.  If you have the time, I definitely recommend playing along with CSI.  I always have so much fun whenever I get the opportunity to participate in one of their challenges.  The cases are monthly & there's always many fabulous prizes for several lucky winners!

I was able to create a good ol' fashioned layout which I haven't had the chance to in ages.  As you can see, I tried to incorporate all of the colors from the case file.  My layout is based on our most recent family vacation to the Caribbean.

The pink fabric star flower seen here is from my own stash.  I have these plus flowers in additional colors available for sale in my Etsy shop The Midnight Kraft Desk.

Here are more detailed closeups.

The background of my layout was a plain piece of textured white card stock.  To this, I added several strips of leftover designer paper that I had in my stash along with several strips of washi tape in order to create the striped layered background.

I've hidden journaling on my layout as well.  My journaling is the flower tag seen in the photo above.  I made the tag by adhering the flower image (which was actually a sticker) to a piece of leftover white card stock.  I then hand wrote my journaling on the back of this tag & tucked it behind the photos.  It's kept in place with the arrow paper clip.

I also tried to add several travel themed embellishments, bits & bobs such as camera images, the passport acetate embellishment & words such as 'Destination' & the title of the layout which was 'Escape'.

Supplies: Paper - American Crafts (Amy Tangerine), Foam Stickers - American Crafts (Amy Tangerine) Card Stock - American Crafts, Pink Fabric Star Flower - The Midnight Kraft Desk, Other - Washi Tape, Paper Flowers

PageMaps Teamup - Frontier Layout

Authentique is teaming up with PageMaps for the month of July!  For my PageMaps project--I jumped at the chance to work with a 12x12 sketch.  I hadn't done a layout in a very long time & was looking forward to working on one again.  Layouts were the very first thing I started working with when I began dabbling in scrapbooking--so it was nice to go back to good ol' fashioned 12x12 layouts.

For this past Father's Day, I took several pictures of the two most important guys in my life--my husband & son.  I gave them the matching t-shirts seen in the photos as a Father's Day gift & then went on a photo shoot roll!  :-)  I loved many of the pictures I took--these two are just a few of my faves.  I used Authentique's 'Frontier' collection for my layout.  I felt that the masculine theme & colors from the 'Frontier' collection complimented my photos perfectly.

Here's the PageMaps sketch that my layout is based on.  I especially enjoyed the elements shown underneath the photos because these could be just about any sort of embellishment.  I ended up using a combination of hexagon, stars & circle shapes.

Here's a close up of my embellishment cluster with all the different shapes.  In addition to the shapes, I further decorated these embellishments by adding sequins, mini spiral paper clips & black ink splatters.

In this pocket I stored several tags made from the leftover scraps plus two journaling cards where I plan to add dates, thoughts & memories about this day from my point of view.

Supplies: Paper - Authentique, Sketch - PageMaps, Punches - Fiskars, Dies - Tim Holtz, Other - Sequins, Mini Spiral Paper Clips

The Magic of The Season Layout

Today's post is a page highlighting both a fabulous template created by The Nifty Pixel & one of Authentique's latest Holiday themed collections: Classic Christmas

This is my little guy for last years Christmas photo shoot.  We have yet to do this years.  So I'm sure I'll be scrapping this year's photos NEXT year.  :-)  I always seem to be a year behind in my scrapbooking, but hey--at least it's getting done.

As previously mentioned, the design of my page is based on one of five templates created by The Nifty Pixel titled Chevvie Delight.  These templates are meant more for the digital scrapper but as you can see they can also be used for traditional scrapbooking.  I'm all about paper & I can't seem to jump on the digital trend of scrapbooking. I've done a few hybrid layouts--but my passion is still good ol' fashioned paper!  You can find more info about these templates here.

I added a few pops of color to my page with bright red fabric star flowers.  These flowers are from my own stash & can be found in a few more colors in my Etsy shop.  If interested, click here to take a look.

The mini gift boxes & Christmas balls are actually ornaments that I found at my local Michaels.  They're meant for those mini Christmas trees but I found that many of those mini ornaments make for great embellishments for layouts as well.

Too add more flair to my background, I've splattered some mists in both red & black colors.

Supplies: Paper - Authentique, Flowers - Manor House, The Kreative Korner, Flair Buttons - Recollections, Mists - Ranger, Heidi Swapp, Embellishments - Michaels, Authentique

Thanks for stopping by & enjoy the upcoming weekend!

Halloween Layout

Today's post is befitting since Halloween is this coming Monday.  This page is long overdue since it displays a photo of my little guy dressed up as a scarecrow taken last Halloween.  I seem to be a year behind on all of photo scrapping!  But the lack of time in my day leaves me with no choice.  Better late than never I always say...

This costume was especially significant for me since it was my very first attempt at creating a homemade costume.  I wanted something different, not store bought & all us crafters know that if you want something unique then handmade it the way to go!  So I took a pair of his old overalls & altered it by adhering random squares of fall themed fabric patches on it along with natural colored rafetta to simulate the 'hay' coming out of his pockets and pant legs.  I opted to not put any makeup on him since he'd rub that off in about 3 seconds after it being applied.  The whole look came together with a burlap hat decorated with fall leaves & some more natural rafetta.  He ended up being the only scarecrow that I saw that one Halloween & we received several comments on his costume.  I was pleased with my little creation & patted myself on the back!  :-)  Not bad for my very first try I think!

For this page I've used paper from Authentique's 'Mysterious' collection & the design is based on a sketch by The Nifty Pixel.

The sketch used is part of a collection of digital templates by The Nifty Pixel.  To find out more information on these templates feel free to check it out here.  The Nifty Pixel also released a couple of Halloween themed digital packs appropriately named 'Trickery'.  My layout is a hybrid page meaning that I printed some elements from the 'Trickery' digital pack & used them on my page.  So these packs can be used for both digital pages or to add unique flair to traditional pages.

In the background of my page I randomly added sequins & bling in different colors to add a bit of shimmer & glimmer to my page.  :-)

All of the flowers used on this page are by Petaloo.

Supplies: Paper - Authentique, Embellishments - Authentique, The Nifty Pixel, Flowers - Petaloo, Other - Sequins, Rhinestones.

Life is Ruff Layout

Good afternoon fellow scrappers!  Today's post is a page that was created for The Nifty Pixel.  This page is based on one of the July Page Drafts sketches release titled: Tucked In V.1.

Here I am with what I like to call my 'eldest son'.  :-)  This is me taking selfies with my pup Toby.  He's my faithful companion & little shadow.  He's all about the photography as well.  I've been taking photos of him since he was 12 weeks old which is when we got him.  So he's a total ham when it comes to taking selfies.

Here's the July Page Drafts release.  Click on this link to find out more info on these versatile sketches.

The background of my page was made with a combination of stamping, masking, ink splatters & by randomly adhering red & blue sequins.  Papers used is from the 'Felicity' collection by Authentique.

I've used my favorite method of journaling which is by storing my thoughts on a small scroll that also serves as a unique embellishment on my page.

I've used a couple of Prima stamps to create the faux stitching along the borders of my page.

I've made a brief tutorial on how I go about making these scrolls.  If interested you can find that tutorial here.

To add some dimension to my page I've adhered several of the embellishments with dimensional foam and/or pop dots.  I've always been a fan of adding a bit of dimension to my layouts.

Supplies: Paper - Authentique, Flowers - Prima, I Am Roses, Flair - Panda Eight Designs, Stamps: Prima Marketing, Masks: Prima Marketing, Mists: Heidi Swapp, Other - Sequins, Glitter Tape, Polaroid Frame, Black Doilies

Thanks for stopping by & have a great weekend!
